The most common is a shared printer is done through the LAN network setup, either via wired or WiFi connection. There is a possibility to configure network printer, but it is a solution that really works well more than to share in a domestic environment and even here there are better solutions today.

ARP has excellent functionality when controlling that MAC addresses are in our network and therefore that IPs are assigned to network computers. It can be a good way to detect intruders on our network while useful to know the MAC information from other computers
arp -a
When you will apply arp –a command it will display all details about connected hardware with Internet Address, Physical Address and its type. Copy and paste Internet Address into web browser and check which is showing your printer related information. I am using HP Laserjet 1320n printer and when I copy and paste 192.168.137.135 IP address to web browser, it showed me following information. It shows that I got right IP address of my attached printer to PC with RJ45 cable LAN network setup.
You can also take “Self Test / Configuration”, to get default IP address of printer, or you can search it on Internet with printer model for default IP address
How to configure network printer
Once you got correct IP address of your printer, next step is the configuring network printer. Now follow the instruction to install setup network printer.
Click on Start Button >> Control Panel
From Control Panel click on “View devices and printers”
From “View devices and printers” click on “Add a printer” at top of bar
From “Add a printer” click on “Add a local printer”
Click on “Create a new port:” radio button, and choose “Standard port TCP/IP port” from drop down list of Type of port: and click on Next button.
From next wizard type the IP address which you early detect using arp –a in “Hostname or IP address:”, Uncheck “Query the printer and automatically select the driver to use” and click on next.
Now Windows will start detecting at typed IP address so please wait a while.
- Next you will Windows will prompt to browse printer driver.
- Click on “Have a disk” to browse the printer driver
- After Browse and select *.inf file and click on OK to install
- Wait a while to complete the driver of the printer.
- That’s all.
